Eating With Dental Implants: What You Can Eat (and When)

Eating With Dental Implants: What You Can Eat (and When) - The Tooth Studio, aesthetic dental clinic in Kukatpally, Hyderabad

One of the biggest joys of dental implants is eating normally again. During healing there are some temporary limits, but once settled, implants let you eat almost anything.

Quick answer

Once healed, dental implants let you eat virtually any food, including crunchy and chewy items, because they function like natural teeth. During the first few days after surgery, stick to soft, cool foods, then gradually return to normal as you heal. Unlike dentures, fully healed implants do not restrict your diet.

During healing (first days to weeks)

  • Soft, cool foods at first: yoghurt, khichdi, soups, smoothies by spoon.
  • Avoid hot, hard, crunchy and spicy foods early on.
  • Chew on the opposite side and gradually expand your diet.

Once fully healed

  • Eat crunchy foods like apples, nuts and raw vegetables.
  • Enjoy chewy and tougher foods that dentures struggle with.
  • No special diet, implants handle normal chewing forces.

A few sensible habits

Even with implants, avoid using teeth to open packaging and be cautious with very hard items to protect the crown. See the recovery guide and how to clean implants.

Yes, once fully healed. Implants restore close to full chewing power, so most foods are fine, with only sensible care to protect the crown.

After healing, very few. Just avoid using teeth to open packaging and be careful with extremely hard items to protect the crown, as with natural teeth.
