Dental fluorosis causes white or brown marks on teeth from too much fluoride during childhood, when teeth are forming. It is cosmetic and treatable.
Fluorosis is caused by taking in too much fluoride while teeth are developing in childhood, often from swallowing toothpaste or high-fluoride water. It shows as white flecks or, in stronger cases, brown stains. It is harmless to function and only cosmetic. Treatments include microabrasion, whitening, bonding or veneers, depending on severity. Using the right amount of toothpaste in children prevents it.
What causes it
- Swallowing too much fluoride toothpaste as a young child.
- High-fluoride drinking water in some areas.
How it's treated
- Enamel microabrasion for mild marks.
- Whitening, bonding or veneers for stronger cases.
Prevent it by using the right amount of fluoride toothpaste for a child's age. Book at The Tooth Studio.
