When you lose a tooth, there are three main ways to replace it: a dental implant, a fixed bridge, or a denture. Each has a place — the best choice depends on your mouth, your budget and how permanent you want the result.
Dental implants are the gold standard — they look, feel and function like natural teeth and protect the jawbone, lasting decades. Bridges are a fixed, faster option that relies on neighbouring teeth. Dentures are the most affordable and non-surgical, but are removable and less stable. Implants offer the best long-term value for most patients.
Dental implants
A titanium post replaces the tooth root, topped with a natural-looking crown. Implants stand alone (no damage to neighbouring teeth), preserve the jawbone, and can last a lifetime with care. They need minor surgery and healing time.
Bridges
A bridge "bridges" the gap using the two adjacent teeth as supports. It is fixed and fairly quick, but those neighbouring teeth must be trimmed, and the bone under the gap is not preserved.
Dentures
Removable dentures replace several or all teeth at lower cost with no surgery. Modern dentures are far more comfortable than before, but they are less stable than fixed options and need periodic adjustment. Implant-supported dentures combine the best of both.
How to choose
- One tooth, want the most natural, lasting result → implant.
- Neighbouring teeth already need crowns → bridge can make sense.
- Several/all teeth, budget-sensitive or not ready for surgery → dentures, or All-on-4 implants for a fixed full arch.
